Jennifer Curtis is an educational leader who has dedicated her life to serving children and their families. Dr. Curtis seeks to improve conditions and opportunities for success for each and every child so every dream can become a reality. Most recently, she served in the capacity of North Carolina Department of Public Instruction’s (NCDPI) Section Chief for Mathematics which included duties as the statewide Director of K-12 Mathematics and Director of the Math Science Partnership Grant (4.8 million annually). Many collaborations have prepared her for this position including district curriculum leader, principal mentor, digital learning implementer, elementary principal, secondary mathematics teacher, pre-school teacher and most importantly, motherhood.
Dr. Curtis believes that when teachers, parents, and communities work together, great things happen for our children. School, District, and State Level Leaders are the key holders of partnerships and relationships in education. That is why Emerald Education was born. As Founder and President, her mission is to assemble enthusiastic and compassionate people with the expertise, skills, and, experience to advise, collaborate, and partner with school and district leaders and state education agencies, so that each and every student has an opportunity to learn according to his or her individual needs and goals.
Dr. Curtis graduated Old Dominion University (ODU) with a B.S. Degree in Interdisciplinary Studies focusing on Applied Mathematics and Science. Her M.S. Ed. from ODU is in Elementary & Middle Education. While serving as an Assistant Principal and Principal, Dr. Curtis completed her doctoral studies at the University of Virginia in Educational Leadership and Policy (2009). Her leadership style is a blend of transformational and servant approaches and she has experience working with rural, urban and suburban districts.
